Here is the work skills unit I work from with High school. It is written with ACARA Life Skills outcomes. More outcomes will be added as they are written.



General summary of program outcomes.
English- Listening and communicating
  • Using verbal and non-verbal communication processes to discus and plan gardening and food service activities on Halinda Green
  • Using a range of visual literacy strategies when completing projects on Halinda Green
Maths- Working Mathematically
  • Counting, estimating and measuring length, mass and volume when gardening and in the kitchen
  • Planning menus and budgeting costs of additional food for recipes
Science and technology
  • Environmental education- sustainability, recycling
  • Living things (exploring life cycles)
  • Impact of seasons and weather on the environment
  • Exploring built environments on Halinda green (gardens, raised beds, composting, worm farms, green house, bike track.)
Geography
  • Landscapes (natural/man made)
  • Explore the effects of peoples activities on the environment (carbon footprint, global warming)
  • Investigate environmental issues and challenges
  • Responsibility of school citizenships in caring for Halinda Green
Work education
  • Development of an understanding of the nature of work and the importance of task perseverance and completion

PDHPE
  • Healthy Living- Plan healthy snacks and simple meals using produce from Halinda Green
  • Safe living- Use Hygienic practice when cooking, and use kitchen and garden equipment safely

  • Gardening as exercise

TAS
  • Food technology- planning and preparing simple healthy recipies using foods from the garden
  • Safe use and care of food preparation utensils and kitchen technology
  • OHS in the garden and kitchen

Assessment Strategies

All students will create work samples according to their unique abilities.
Here is the oh&s assessment to be used at the beginning of the year. they will help you figure out your students learning needs and provide a measure of learning at the end of the year.

  • Occasionlly students will keep a diary where a short entry will outline the lesson.
  • Worksheets addressing the key issues of the lessons
  • Photos taken by the students that summaries’ the lesson
  • Photos taken by the teacher to assess student involvement in the lessons
  • Verbal presentations by capable students addressing the lesson content
  • Group power point presentations using all our wonderful photos
  • Group posters showcasing our work
  • A thriving garden full of healthy produce (hopefully)
  • Creation of simple meals shared by all !
